Frequently Asked QuestionsHere are some questions we get asked a lot. Click on the question you wish you'd asked. If you can't find the answer to your question here, or if you have anything else to add, please contact us.
When does the Albuquerque Ski Club meet?Every time there's a ski trip! We have no formal meetings outside of the trips themselves. We're all about having fun together on a ski trip and that's pretty much it. (However, other parties have been known to happen from time to time... Feel free to be an instigator -- um, I mean, 'leader' -- in that regard!) Are there club dues/fees? What are they used for?Yes, $25.00 a year per household (people living at the same address). If you haven't paid your dues yet, better write a check today! Make it out to "Albuquerque Ski Club" and send it to Albuquerque Ski Club, 620 Carlisle SE, Albq NM, 87106. The club dues are used to pay for club mailings and correspondence with resorts (postage, paper, envelopes, photocopying, etc.) and other incidental costs (checking account fees, website hosting and domain name registration, etc.). Can I pay online?YES! We are currently set up with PayPal and you can use it to pay online. If you are not already a PayPal member, then you should click here to learn more about it. Once you are a PayPal member, you can pay online just by clicking on any button like the one below wherever you see one in our site. (This button here are also active for payment.) What's up with these deposits? In order for us to get as low a price as possible for our trips, we need to actually book a certain number of rooms as early as possible in the season (actually before the season). These rooms are secured for us by sending in a deposit. This deposit can become non-refundable a long time before we ever even go on the trip! (See cancellation policy.) Another reason for the deposits is to ensure you get in on the trips you want. If the bus fills up, we start a waiting list but if no one cancels, you may just be out of luck. Some may say, "I'm a person of my word. If I say I'm going on a particular trip, why do I need to put down money for it?" Well, we don't intend to question anyone's honor here but we've had verbal commitments that don't come through. And... Life happens and sometimes people just need to cancel. When we don't get a sufficient number of people on a trip, the club loses money on that trip and puts the rest of the season in a tight situation. We've also had to cancel trips entirely (causing us all to eat our deposits!) because not enough people were willing or interested enough to pay a deposit within the specified time-frame. Am I paying for all that food and beer that are provided on the trips?NO! Our sponsors provide all the food and drinks for free! We do not spend club money on food and especially not on alcohol since not everyone drinks. Our current sponsor is Premiere Distributing. Give them your business if you have the opportunity. Can I get a senior discount? New Info! Not anymore... For most of the trips, our lodging and lift tickets are a package deal with a group rate. That group rate is usually as cheap or even cheaper than any senior discount offered by the resort. If you've had enough birthdays to ski FREE, then we will give you our non-skier price and let you take care of getting your free pass at the resort. What is your cancellation policy? Each resort has differing cancellation policies of their own. So our cancellation policy will differ depending on which particular trip is in question. In most cases the deposits we've sent in become NON-REFUNDABLE as much as 60 to 120 days prior to our arrival. OUR CANCELLATION POLICY MATCHES THAT OF EACH RESORT What is the average age of the club?It can vary quite a bit from trip to trip but overall, our average age is probably in the mid to late 30's. We've ranged from 16 to 82 and everyone seems to have a great time together. All "adult" ages are welcome and encouraged to come have fun with us! (no children though - sorry) Who will I room with? Our lodging is all based on double-occupancy. If you don't bring your own roomie along, we will put you together with someone else of the same sex. You can request a specific roomie - just let us know. You can also get a private room if you'd like. It costs more, sometimes quite a lot more. You can check on the prices on our Schedule Page or just get in touch with us about it. Are there any 'unofficial' ski trips?Yes, if people want to get together and ski... If you really want to go skiing but don't have anyone to go with, get in touch with us and perhaps we can drum up a few friends to hit the slopes with you! As a club, we will try to put together ANY TRIP (plane, bus, van, car, whatever) if there are enough people interested to make it doable. Can snowboarders come too?YES! Snowboarders are welcome to join us on any trip, as are cross-country skiers, telemarkers etc. If you like to slide on snow, you're welcome to come along! Do I have to ski (or board)? No! You are welcome to come along for the ride. Non-skiers come along fairly often just for the fun of the gang or to hang around in nice little Colorado resort towns and shop (or study Calculus if your name is Jerry!) Check the Schedule Page or contact us for info about non-skier prices. PLEASE READ THE RELATED ANSWER BELOW ABOUT OTHER LIFT TICKETS What if I only come on one trip, do I need to pay club dues?Yes, $25.00 will be included as part of your price for that trip. (Of course, any other club trips you might end up taking during that season will not include this once-per-season cost.) What if I have my own lift tickets? Many people have other means of getting passes. The new Millennium Pass from Taos is one in particular that lots of people are taking advantage of. Naturally, folks with passes from another source would like to save some cash and go as a non-skier on our club trips. However, because our club mostly works by getting group rates for package deals (lodging and lift tickets together), we face losing the deals we hope to provide if we don't have a sufficiently large group. Therefore our policy is as follows: if you really are going to ski (as opposed to kicking around town or hanging out at the motel), we can only offer you our non-skier price once we have reached a minimum of 30 people signed up for the trip. Sooo... Invite a friend! Still Have a Question? You can e-mail us with your question(s) or you can ask right here. We'll get back to you ASAP. | ||||
